Forms of fibroadenoma

There are 4 types of disease:

1. The intracanalicular variety is formed when connective tissue grows inside the milk ducts or between them. Palpation of the affected areas allows you to isolate individual lobes of the tumor and feel its heterogeneous structure, but does not allow you to determine clear boundaries. In most cases, formations of this type are not malignant and are excised because they do not respond to drugs.
2. Pericanalicular fibroadenoma differs from the previous type in its homogeneous structure. The tumor grows around the ducts and can develop into cancer. The disease can be successfully treated with medications.
3. The mixed type of fibrocystic adenoma combines the characteristics of the previous two fibroadenomas. The neoplasm covers the cavity of the ducts from the inside and outside. There are practically no symptoms.
4. Leaf-shaped fibroadenoma is considered the most dangerous type, since it is the most aggressive and can grow up to 25 cm. Such pathologies are typical during menopause. The leaf-shaped structure signals the beginning of the borderline stage of degeneration into a malignant tumor, which occurs in 10% of cases. With this diagnosis, surgery is immediately performed to remove the tumor.
