The drug is produced as a solution (injection) intended for intramuscular administration, as well as in tablet form. The tablets are packaged in glass jars of 30 pieces. in each or in blisters of 10 pcs. in each, and then placed in cardboard packages of 1 can or 3 blisters.

The Vikasol solution is packaged in ampoules with a nominal volume of 1 ml, and then placed in contour cells of 5 pieces. in each. One cardboard package usually contains 2 cells with ampoules.

Vitamin K

Synonyms: Menadion.

Pharmachologic effect. Synthetic (artificially produced) water-soluble analogue

vitamin K. Participates in the formation of prothrombin. Helps normalize blood clotting. If it is insufficient, hemorrhagic phenomena (bleeding) develop in the body.

Indications for use. Jaundice due to a delay in the flow of bile into the intestines, acute hepatitis (inflammation of liver tissue). Parenchymal (from internal organs) and capillary bleeding (used in preparation for and after surgical operations). Bleeding from ulcers of the stomach and duodenum. Radiation sickness. Thrombopenic purpura (multiple hemorrhages under the skin and/or mucous membranes due to a decrease in the level of platelets in the blood). Persistent hemorrhoids (from dilated veins of the rectum) and nosebleeds. Last months of pregnancy (to prevent bleeding in newborns). Hemorrhagic disease (increased bleeding) in newborns. Prolonged uterine juvenile and premenopausal bleeding (dysfunctional uterine bleeding before puberty and in the premenopausal period). Bleeding due to pulmonary tuberculosis, septic diseases (diseases associated with the presence of microbes in the blood), severe hypoprothrombinemia (decreased levels of prothrombin in the blood - a blood clotting factor), when using anticoagulants (drugs that inhibit blood clotting) - antagonists (drugs with the opposite effect ) vitamin K: phenylin, neodicoumarin, etc.

For hemophilia (a hereditary disease accompanied by reduced blood clotting) and Werlhof's disease (multiple hemorrhages under the skin and mucous membranes due to a decrease in the level of platelets in the blood), Vicasol is ineffective.

Method of administration and dose. Orally for adults 0.015-0.3 g per day; intramuscularly 0.01-0.015 g. Higher doses for adults orally: single dose - 0.03 g, daily - 0.06 g; intramuscularly: single - 0.015 g, daily - 0.03 g. Children under 1 year of age are prescribed 0.002-0.005 g, up to 3 years - 0.006 g, 3-4 years - 0.008 g, 5-9 years - 0.01 g , 10-14 years - 0.015 g per day in 2-3 doses for 3-4 days in a row; after a break of 4 days, the course of treatment is repeated. Before surgery, the drug is prescribed 2-3 days before surgery. Women in labor are given a daily dose immediately after arriving at the maternity hospital, and then, if labor has not occurred, after 12 hours and 24 hours. The dose for newborns is not higher than 0.004 g.

Higher doses for adults: single dose orally - 0.03 g, daily - 0.06 g; intramuscular single dose - 0.015 g, daily - 0.03 g.

Side effect. In case of overdose, in rare cases, hypervitaminosis K occurs, manifested by hyperprothrombinemia and hyperthrombinemia (increased levels of prothrombin and thrombin in the blood - blood clotting factors), hyperbilirubinemia (increased levels of the bilirubin pigment in the blood); in isolated cases, children develop toxicosis (poisoning), manifested by convulsions.

Contraindications. Increased blood clotting. Thromboembolism (blockage of blood vessels with a blood clot).

Release form. Powder; tablets of 0.015 g in a package of 25 pieces; ampoules of 1 ml of 1% solution in a package of 10 pieces.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

The drug is involved in the synthesis of proconvertin and prothrombin, thus enhancing blood clotting. Tablets, as well as intramuscular injections of this drug, enhance the production of hemocoagulation factors (types II, VII, IX and X).

With a lack of vitamin K in the human body, increased bleeding increases, which can lead to serious and sometimes fatal consequences. Vikasol has hemostatic properties , which appear after a maximum of 18 hours from the date of use of the drug.

Adult patients are recommended to take from 15 to 30 mg of the drug per day, children under 1 year – from 2 to 5 mg, up to 2 years – 6 mg, from 3 to 4 years – 8 mg, from 5 to 9 years – 10 mg , from 10 to 14 years – 15 mg. As a general rule, tablets are taken no more than 3 times a day. However, the dosage, schedule for taking the drug, as well as the duration of the course of treatment, can be set by the doctor individually.

The solution for injection in adult patients can be used in a dosage not exceeding 10-15 mg per day. For children, the dosage of Vikasol solution is similar to the rules for taking the tablet form of the drug.

As a general rule, the duration of treatment with any form of the drug should not exceed 4 days. You can reuse the medicine after 4 days. The following maximum permissible doses of the drug have been established for a single dose of Vikasol (i.e., the maximum permissible single dose):

• in tablets - for adult patients 30 mg, but not more than 60 mg per day, for newborns no more than 4 mg per day;
• in the form of a solution - for adults 15 mg, but not more than 30 mg. per day, for newborns - no more than 4 mg per day.

As such, there are no instructions for using Vikasol during menstruation, since only a qualified gynecologist can correctly select an individual dosage and develop a schedule for taking the drug for each woman.

When is it acceptable to drink alcohol?

How long after treatment you can drink is determined based on the duration of the course. The effect of the drug begins 10 hours after entering the blood; the duration of administration is calculated individually.

You can allow yourself a small amount of alcohol no earlier than 24 hours after the last injection.

Even if the medication seems harmless, its combination with ethanol is unpredictable. It is often prescribed as part of the treatment of alcoholism. But the effectiveness and safety of therapy is only possible with complete abstinence from alcohol, at least while taking the medications.

Interaction

When used together with Vikasol and Phenilin , Neodicoumarin and other vitamin K antagonists, the drug blocks the anticoagulant properties of the above-mentioned drugs.

When using the drug simultaneously with antibiotics, Quinidine , salicylates, quinine and antibacterial sulfonamides, Vikasol dosage adjustment is required.

Vikasol and beer

Regardless of the form of Vikasol, taking it with beer is strictly prohibited by manufacturers and doctors. Both substances, even in minimal dosages, affect the patient’s body, especially his liver. Poisoning of hepatocytes can provoke the development of hepatosis, fibrosis or cirrhosis.
