Maraslavin, solution for topical use, 100 ml, 1 pc.
Pharmaceutical action.
Combined herbal product for topical use; has an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, irritant, astringent and local anesthetic effect, stimulates tissue regeneration. At the beginning of the course of treatment it causes irritation, hyperemia and swelling of the gum mucosa. Due to the hypertonicity of the solution, toxic decay products are removed from the gum tissue and gum pockets, then the number of collagen fibers increases, their compaction occurs, new epithelium is formed and the normal structure of the gums is restored, strengthening the bonding of the periodontium with the cement of the tooth root. When treating the hemorrhagic form of periodontal disease, first there is a reduction in swelling and bleeding of the gums, which become pale, and then pale pink in color and thicken; gingival papillae become thinner and gradually press against the neck of the tooth at the subenamel-cementum border. Gum pockets shrink or disappear. With the pyorrheic form, in the first days there is an increase in the amount of purulent exudate, followed by a decrease in its amount until complete disappearance. The gingival papillae are absorbed, the edges of the gums are leveled and pressed tightly against the teeth.
Indications.
Periodontal disease (including hemorrhagic with alveolar pockets, pyorrheic), postoperative period during surgical treatment of periodontal disease.
Contraindications.
Hypersensitivity.
Dosage regimen.
Locally,
treatment is carried out by a dentist and begins with the removal of supragingival tartar. At the same time, measures are taken to ventilate the gum pockets with a spray or a stream of warm water. Then instillation is carried out using loose cotton swabs, abundantly moistened with maraslavin, into the alveolar and bone pockets. The tampons are left in the pockets for 5–6 minutes, and during this time the tampons are placed on the other side of the teeth or in the pockets of adjacent teeth. This procedure is repeated 5-6 times in one session - sequentially in each pocket. The last tampons are left loosely in the pockets. The next day, remove the tampons left after the first visit, remove subgingival tartar and sequentially insert several tampons into each pocket. The course of treatment is 17–20 sessions over 3 months (the first 5–6 sessions are with an interval of 24 hours). After 5–6 months, regardless of the condition of the gums, 1–2 procedures are carried out to treat the same places on the alveoli in order to eliminate possible microbial pathogens of the process.
Side effects.
Fever (caused by purulent exudation), allergic reactions.
Special instructions.
During the treatment period, it is recommended to eat foods rich in vitamins and additional intake of vitamins A and C. It is necessary to exclude spicy and irritating foods (garlic, onions, nuts) from the diet; You should not brush your teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste or use disinfectants to rinse your mouth. Rinse your mouth with cool water in the morning and evening. Prolonged exposure to the sun should be avoided. Does not dissolve cement, dentin and tooth enamel.
How does Maraslavin work?
Maraslavin prevents the development of inflammation and allergic reactions. The wound healing process is accompanied by the effect of local anesthesia, which facilitates the treatment of oral diseases. Rinsing with a healing liquid helps cleanse the oral mucosa of toxic substances, purulent plaques and bacteria.
After contact of the drug with tissues, their ability to regenerate sharply increases due to an increase in the density of collagen fibers. The activation of growth and compaction of the epithelial layer of the gums begins, which leads to the natural restoration of the tissue structures of the oral cavity.
The instructions for the herbal medicine Maraslavin contain special instructions regarding the features of treatment with the drug:
- the beginning of treatment procedures can cause an increase in the inflammatory process, accompanied by swelling and irritation;
- relief of the condition along with rapid healing of the mucous membrane occurs after cleansing the periodontal pockets of toxic deposits;
- continuation of therapy leads to a decrease in gum bleeding and the return of a tight fit of their papillae to the surface of the teeth.
The use of rinses with Maraslavin eliminates the serious threat of subsequent loss of teeth by eliminating infection in the gum pockets. Reducing the cavities with their further disappearance aligns the edge of the gum, pressing it against the teeth, which can significantly reduce tooth mobility during periodontal disease.
Purpose of the medicine: indications for use
As for Maraslavin, it is not as versatile as Tempalgin. It has a clear and fairly narrow list of indications for use. In most cases, the drug is prescribed by a dentist or periodontist if the patient has specific diseases - periodontitis1 or periodontal disease. Most often, the medicine is prescribed as part of complex therapy for the treatment of purulent inflammation and in clinical conditions complicated by the presence of periodontal pockets. The oral mucosa is also treated with the drug after surgical procedures and interventions on soft tissues and gums.
Periodontitis and periodontal disease - indications for use of the drug
How to be treated correctly with Maraslavin
It is important to use “Maraslavin” only in accordance with the instructions, and also under the close supervision of a doctor, even though it is over-the-counter. The drug is used in medical practice in different ways.
For mouth rinses
Place a few tablespoons of the solution in your mouth and rinse your mouth thoroughly. You can rinse for as long as you have patience. Repeatability – up to 4-5 times a day.
Often used for rinsing
For applications
You need to moisten a cotton sponge in the composition, apply it to the affected areas of the mucous membrane, and leave for up to 15 minutes. You also need to repeat the procedure 4-5 times a day.
For the rehabilitation of gum pockets
In this case, the application is applied directly by the doctor in the dental office. First, the specialist removes bacterial deposits from the periodontal pockets, and then places tampons soaked in Maraslavin into them. In some cases, the doctor may leave the tampon on for a day, but more often he sequentially applies applications with fresh liquid every 5-10 minutes for 5-6 times. In this way, it is necessary to carry out a whole complex of treatment measures, consisting of 15-20 procedures (usually the medicine is given at intervals, so the treatment is extended over 3-6 months).
The photo shows the sanitation of gum pockets
The final assessment of the result of such treatment will be possible only 12 months after the start of using the drug. Yes, this is a long period of time, but periodontitis and periodontal disease, especially in advanced stages, cannot be cured quickly and permanently without the use of drastic measures (for example, tooth extraction and implantation).
To prevent gum disease
Here it will be enough to dilute a few tablespoons of “Maraslavin” in a glass of water and use this solution as a mouth rinse. You can do the procedure up to 4-5 times a day, but it is better to consult a doctor first.
Remember that an opened bottle of the drug cannot be stored for a long time; if you haven’t used it within one month, you can safely throw it away and buy a fresh one if necessary!

When using this drug, doctors advise patients to also follow a set of measures at home so that the treatment goes well.

The corporation has existed since 1933, actively invests in research activities, so it can boast of producing truly high-quality and competitively priced medicines. The same “Maraslavin” can be purchased in various pharmacies for only 110-150 rubles. In addition to Maraslavin, for example, the company supplies to different countries of the world such medicine as Tempalgin, which often becomes a permanent “tenant” in the home medicine cabinet and is perceived as a remedy for all ills, or more precisely, for pain of various origins.
What are the contraindications
Apart from individual intolerance to the components of the drug and the age of patients under 18 years of age, the manufacturer does not identify any group of patients for whom treatment with the drug is completely contraindicated. The use of the drug does not cause any negative reactions, does not affect the enamel and dentin of the teeth, does not cause harm to the body and cannot cause intoxication or overdose (unless, of course, you swallow the liquid, which is generally contraindicated).
There are also no clear contraindications for pregnant women and those women who are breastfeeding small children. It is only said that no reliable studies have been conducted on these groups of patients, therefore the advisability of treatment with the solution should be determined based on the individual clinical situation.
